Question 1

What are the signs a 2022 Toyota Mirai needs transmission service?

Accepted Answer

Delayed or harsh shifts, slipping, shuddering, a rising engine note without matching speed, or a burnt smell can signal a transmission concern. These symptoms do not identify the exact fault. A transmission inspection and diagnostic scan determine whether fluid condition, an electronic fault, mechanical wear, or another issue is involved. Delayed or harsh shifting. Slipping or shuddering. Burnt-smelling or dark fluid where a dipstick is fitted.

Question 2

What is included in a 2022 Toyota Mirai transmission service?

Accepted Answer

Service includes a fluid exchange using the manufacturer-specified fluid, an inspection of fluid condition and level, and a scan for stored transmission fault codes. The automatic continuously variable transmission requires a procedure matched to the transmission fitted to the vehicle. The dealership inspects before recommending additional work. Fluid condition and level inspection. Transmission fluid exchange when appropriate. Stored fault-code scan.

Question 3

How often should the transmission fluid in a 2022 Toyota Mirai be changed?

Accepted Answer

The manufacturer’s maintenance schedule does not state a transmission-fluid replacement interval for this model year. Fluid condition can be inspected between other maintenance visits and when symptoms occur. Driving conditions and service history help determine when an inspection is appropriate. Fluid condition. Driving conditions such as heat and stop-and-go traffic. Prior service history and current symptoms.

Question 4

What kind of transmission fluid does a 2022 Toyota Mirai take?

Accepted Answer

The manufacturer specifies a fluid for the transmission actually fitted to the vehicle. Fluids are not interchangeable, and using the wrong one can damage the unit. The correct fluid is identified from the vehicle and its transmission, not from the model name alone. Transmission identification. Manufacturer fluid requirement. Vehicle-specific service procedure.

Question 5

Drain and fill, or a full fluid exchange—which does a 2022 Toyota Mirai need?

Accepted Answer

The vehicle’s fluid condition and service history determine whether a drain and fill or a fuller exchange is appropriate. A drain and fill replaces roughly what the pan holds, while a full exchange addresses more of the system. Coggin Toyota at the Avenues inspects before recommending service and does not treat an exchange as the default for unknown history. Fluid condition. Prior transmission service. Current symptoms and diagnostic findings.

Question 6

Can I keep driving a 2022 Toyota Mirai that is slipping or shifting hard?

Accepted Answer

Driving with slipping or hard shifting should be limited and diagnosed promptly. Continued driving on a slipping transmission can turn a fluid-and-filter job into a rebuild. The symptom may reflect mechanical wear or another fault rather than fluid condition alone. Schedule a transmission diagnosis. Avoid treating a symptom as a confirmed diagnosis. Stop driving if operation becomes unsafe.

Question 7

Does a sealed transmission still need service on a 2022 Toyota Mirai?

Accepted Answer

A transmission built without a dipstick or serviceable pan can still require inspection and a fluid condition check. The manufacturer publishes no routine replacement interval for this model year. Whether this vehicle’s transmission is one of those designs must be confirmed from the vehicle. Transmission design confirmation. Fluid condition inspection. Stored fault-code scan.

Question 8

Is transmission service better done at the dealer or an independent shop?

Accepted Answer

Either may be appropriate, depending on the reader’s priorities and the shop’s equipment and procedures. An independent shop is often cheaper on labor and fluid. The dealer stocks the fluid the manufacturer specifies for this transmission and follows the factory procedure for it. Compare the fluid used. Ask whether diagnostic scanning is included. Confirm the procedure matches the fitted transmission.
